Electrician – Online Training Courses and Certificates

About Electrician Careers

Electricians are tradesmen who specialize in the electrical wiring of buildings. They are responsible for the design, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and wiring in homes and commercial buildings. Electricians should not be confused with electrical contractors who are in the business of employing electricians. Like many manual labor specialists, electricians usually carry their own tools and equipment. While most electricians are responsible for equipping themselves with the right tools, companies and clients will furnish more expensive equipment if it is necessary for the job.

Safety is of the utmost importance when performing a job, so electricians need to be properly trained and updated on current and changing safety standards. In order to keep up with the proper training, certification and safety standards, electricians are usually a part of an organization or union of electricians. These groups can help an electrician in maintaining the highest level of quality in work and service and also in finding new work.

Salary and Employment

Most electricians start by becoming paid apprentices. As an apprentice, work is learned primarily by accompanying and assisting an established electrician. During this time, apprentices may also be required to attend classes and training courses. Study courses and learning resources are widely available online for apprentices who want to accelerate their knowledge base, but these courses can also serve as a refresher for veteran electricians who want to keep up with the times. The proper education can help minimize the risks of falling, sustaining cuts or lacerations and, most importantly, electrical shock. The average salary of a licensed electrician is roughly $23.20 per hour, with the highest paid averaging about $38.89 per hour or more. The demand for electricians is expected to rise by 12% over the next ten years.
