"We are a babysitting agency for many elementary students.

So true. And it's not much better in higher education.

It is interesting to see the districts going to proficient, basic, below basic and advanced. Parents ask what percentage and grade that would be with the old grading system. I feel that education is not important to too many people. Students aren't encouraged by parents. We are a babysitting agency for many elementary students. The nation has lost the perspective on the importance of education and unfortunately many are taking it for granted.

I agree. Altogether doing away with grades is a bit of a utopian fantasy of mine. There would be no way to rank students at all, but I think an important question to ask is, do we really need a valedictorian? Does that add any value to the world, other than padding on one students resume?

Thanks for your comment.

Interesting list! I just don't think that we will ever do away with grades. How would you go about determining valedictorian the senior year? Would this be subjectively picked? I don't like using grades to do this as it is but I think it is the best process that we have at this time. Thanks for sharing this!
